Is This The Perfect Family House? (House Tour)

For the design language of this family house, Esat Design drew from rural Mediterranean architecture and interior design to establish a homey and rustic feel into Grèce. From here, the architect took that language and combined it with a contemporary yet edgy approach to the exterior architecture, interior design and decor that would then reflect the client’s energetic personalities. Moreover, the architect and builder worked hard to create a family house that tied into the suburban context of Brisbane, Australia. The family house is perched on a hill and captures encompassing views of Brisbane city and beyond while also allowing the owners to live in an oasis-like home that calls back to their Greek heritage. As the house is surrounded by other family residences, the backyard is open to neighbouring yards to encourage family gatherings and allow the kids to play together. Moreover, the home was built by Batspac, which is owned by the homeowner’s brothers, therefore capturing the importance of family in its design. Spread over three levels, the family house makes use of the steep slope it is positioned upon and embraces personal touches from the clients themselves. As such, Batspac built Grèce with the help of Esat Design in a modern Mediterranean architectural style. This includes the use of thick lines, bolstered architecture, stone floors and a timeless design that emulates the feeling of living in Greece. Major design elements of the home that are shown through the house tour include curves along the ceiling, window and door frames and even in pieces of furniture. As the house tour moves upstairs, a glimpse of an inner courtyard, which echoes a traditional Greek courtyard, encourages a wealth of natural light into the home. Further down the hall, the children’s bedrooms have been arranged around a secondary small living space that encourages connection and reimagines play time. Positioned at the highest point of the family house is the main bedroom, which awards the owners with a sense of seclusion. Furthermore, the room features a private balcony with outlooks toward the city and surrounding nature, an ensuite with a concrete bath and an enormous walk-in-robe.
On the lowest level of the residence, a feeling of relaxation and calm has been emphasised with neutral materials and decor. Designed to emulate a wellness retreat, this level features a kitchenette, gym, sauna, cold plunge pool and locations for photoshoots that allow the client to work from home. A dwelling that allows the clients to live, work and play within one space, Grèce deftly caters to their every needs. Driven by emotion, Esat Design and Batspac worked together to create the ultimate family house that honours the owners’ Greek heritage. 00:00 – Introduction to the Perfect Family House
