6 Clever DIY Planner Projects to Help Keep Your Busy Life in Order

It’s always a good idea to be organized, but sometimes, that’s only true in theory. As much as everyone wants to be the type of person who is on top of all the things — the birthday parties, the soccer games, the work events — it can be hard to keep everything straight. Which is why the classic planner is still going strong as a worthwhile solution.

But here’s the thing about planners: They can be pretty boring. And if you’re not inspired by the one you’ve chosen, then you’re probably not going to use it to its full potential. One way to avoid this problem is to make use of projects that bring color and fun to these blank pages. Which is why I’ve collected six projects that’ll make that happen, from bright dividers and lists to smile-inducing paper clips and stickers.

The beauty of these DIY ideas is that you can personalize your planner to work uniquely for you! Do so to your heart’s content, and you’ll be sure to manage your schedule, including whatever curveballs appear.

Holly from Club Crafted upcycled the ubiquitous plastic divider into something a little more helpful for her planner, which also happens to be in a sunny color. She used her Cricut to make this, but you could use an Exacto knife or cardstock and scissors. You’ll be able to easily flip to the current week once you’re done.

Felt Flower Planner Clips

Mollie from Handmade Charlotte crafted felt flower planner clips using a printable flower template, and they will certainly make you smile as they peek over the month’s pages. Use one to find your week or a whole garden as vertical section tabs.

Teal Notes is a full-on treasure trove of DIY planner inspiration. Their team shares several printable resources you can add to your planner like a habit tracker, summer bucket list, and weekly meal planner, depending on what you need to stay organized.

Like most good DIYs, Megan’s started when she was looking to solve an organization challenge. She needed planner stickers specifically for her son, but could only find ones that catered to teachers. So she created over 130 different student planner stickers and generously shares them on her blog, The Homes I Have Made. Print her designs on label paper for a full sticker suite and check out her post for other ways to use them.

And if you need even more customization to your planner, Megan from The Homes I Have Made also has DIY planner inserts to share, which uses a Cricut machine to create oh-so-pretty backdrops to your most important notes.

Now, what would be the point of all this planning if you could never find a pen to write things down? Corinne of It’s So Corinney has that covered, thanks to a tutorial on how to make a planner pen holder using quilting cotton and elastic. Keep it at the front of your pages, and you’ll never search for another pen whenever you’re trying to log something new.
