How to teach kids to take care of the planet with 365 Days of Calm

I’m really excited to be sharing this new children’s book with you. And there’s a fab giveaway too – make sure you check it out at the end of this post.

365 Days of Calm by Becky Goddard-Hill book cover

*365 days of Calm is a brand new quote book for children by wellbeing author Becky Goddard-Hill. It’s colourful, fun, and full of inspiration and ideas.

It has just been published alongside *365 days of Happy and *365 days of Kind. Each of these books are packed with quotes, affirmations, and activities to encourage and inspire kids each and every day.

Every week has a theme, and starts with an activity related to the theme, followed by inspiring words on each following day. Mornings are a great time for kids to dip into their book and start their day with a smile.

The books are beautifully designed, with a lovely tactile hardback cover, bright pages, and a colourful place marker ribbon. They’re also the perfect size to stuff in a stocking or give as a gift to a child aged 6-12.

These books are a fantastic way to bring wellbeing practices to kids in digestible chunks. Here is a lovely example from the “Calm World” week.

A calm world

Activity

Taking care of the planet and all the plants, animals and people it contains can seem too BIG a job. It can feel overwhelming, but there is always something you CAN do. Millions of people doing lots of little things makes a BIG difference. So it is important to play your part. What will that look like today?

Perhaps you could….

  • Make a bird feeder?
  • Go litter picking?
  • Donate your pocket money to a good cause?

You can make a difference and you have more power than you know.

The week continues with lovely quotes and affirmations for children to say out loud.

“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.” Dr Seuss

I can make a difference.

In a gentle way, you can shake the world.” – Mahatma Gandhi

The world is a better place because of me.

“You are never too small to make a difference.” – Greta Thunberg

When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace.” – Jimi Hendrix

Helping children understand they do have the power to make a difference helps them to feel strong, positive, and effective. This can boost their mental health and make them proactive caretakers for the planet.

Social and emotional learning works best when it is part of every day, rather than just an add-in on the school curriculum. A daily dose of calm will help kids boost their emotional regulation and feel back in control.
