Taking the top spot is Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. The school offers a range of modern and traditional housing options for students, including a space just for freshmen and sophomores known as the South 40. Featuring a technology center, a fitness center, intramural fields, and basketball and sand volleyball courts, the South 40 stands apart as a home away from home.

Coming in second place is Texas Christian University. Based in Fort Worth, Texas since 1873, the school stands apart from the pack by offering on-campus housing specifically geared towards first-year students, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. The school also scored third place in the Princeton Review’s evaluation of the best quality of life and best-run colleges.

Taking third place is Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Offering close access to one of the South’s major cities, Emory offers modern kitchens and free laundry machines to its on-campus students.

Rounding out the top five is the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana. Unlike some of the other schools on this list, Rose-Hulman requires freshmen to live on campus for their first year of college. Luckily, their dorm suites come with modern kitchens and appliances, as well as a gender-inclusive living environment aimed to be inclusive of the LGBTQ+ community.
