To help you get your spooky TV marathon started, USDish set out to identify the top Halloween episodes in America this year, based on search volume viewership, and ratings. All the episodes in this year’s study were released between 1997 and 2021, with an average rating of 7.5 or higher on IMDb.

While last year’s USDish study found that “The Simpsons’” classic “Treehouse of Horror” reigned supreme, this year, many 2022 viewers opted for newer Halloween episodes of shows that could easily be found on streaming services, such as “WandaVision,” “Stranger Things,” and “Cobra Kai.” However, classic episodes of ’90s and early 2000s shows like “The Office” and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” were still in the mix.

Read on to find out which Halloween episodes Americans are most eager to dive into this year.

A firm favorite among fans is Cobra Kai’s season one episode “Esqueleto,” which took first place with 27.5 million views and an average rating of 8.1. The episode first aired in 2018, and finds original “The Karate Kid” protagonist Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) juggling the responsibilities of chaperoning his daughter’s Halloween dance and dealing with his rival Johnny Lawrence’s (William Zabka) growing Cobra Kai dojo. Plus, it features a skeleton costume that’s a direct nod to the original film.

Taking the silver medal is the iconic “Friends” episode “The One With the Halloween Party,” which first aired in 2001, receiving 27 million views and an average rating of 8.5 While the beloved sitcom ran for ten seasons, this season eight classic is somehow the only Halloween special the show ever did. But watching Phoebe and her twin sister Ursula face off at Monica and Chandler’s Halloween party is well-worth it.

The episode is also chock-full of costume ideas, from Chandler’s pink bunny rabbit suit to Monica as Catwoman.

“Stranger Things” took the world by storm this summer with season four, so it’s no surprise that the spooky season two premiere “MadMax” also ranked highly. The 2017 episode — which introduced fan-favorite Kate Bush enthusiast Max Mayfield (Sadie Sink) received 19,435 votes and holds an average rating of 8.2.
