Everyone deals with clutter. If you’re feeling it build up and want to take care it, the best way is to get rid of the excess is to quickly get rid of it. If you’re struggling with decluttering or feeling like you just can’t get motivated to get started, here are 10 ways to quickly get rid of clutter. The goal is a quick win and a decluttered space. This can be a drawer, a counter, an end table, a closet – choose an area that needs a little decluttering, a method that motivates you, and get started.

10 Ways to Quickly Get Rid of Clutter

1 – SET A TIMER – This can be for 10 minutes or 2 hours, you choose! Set a timer and work as quickly as you can.

2 – DECLUTTER DAILY – Making decluttering just part of your day is probably the easiest way to declutter your home. Clutter is a Daily Task with the Clean Mama Routine, making it just part of daily life makes it so much easier and helps you avoid being overwhelmed by clutter.

2 – MORE NOW = LESS LATER – If you struggle with motivation, remember that the more you deal with now, it’ll be easier later because you’ll have less stuff to manage.

3 – USE CLUTTER CATEGORIES – Using categories (Keep, Toss, Donate, Relocate) helps you move quickly and will make putting things away a little easier. ssess the area and determine if there’s anything you need to keep this space from cluttering up again. Put your Relocate items in their new spot and take care of your Toss and Donate items.

4 – QUICK SORT – Do a Quick Sort and move as quickly as you can, putting each item in one of these 4 clutter categories (Keep, Toss, Donate, Relocate).

5 – BE STRATEGIC – Focus an areas in your home that make a big impact and get daily use. Decluttering the kitchen will be more impactful in your daily life than a spare bedroom. Start with those high impact areas and you’ll find that the success will motivate you to keep going.

6 – SCHEDULE IT – It’s one thing to declutter daily but it’s also helpful to set aside a day every month to get clutter out of the house. About a year ago I started doing a ‘declutter day’ every month – it’s a day that I can do some deeper decluttering and/or drop off any donations that I’ve collected over the month. There’s even a spot in the Homekeeping Planner for this too!

7 – DELEGATE – Get your family members involved!  Lead by example and ask for help with specific and easy to complete instructions. If you have young kids, don’t just say clean your room, split up those tasks into simple steps like – let’s go through this stack of books and decide what books we can let someone else read.

8 – CHOOSE THE TIME OF DAY THAT WORKS BEST – If you want to declutter quickly, choose a time of day that you’ll feel motivated and have the capacity to complete decluttering. Don’t declutter at 8pm unless that’s when you have the energy to do so.

9 – SOMETHING IS BETTER THAN NOTHING – Just because you don’t have the time to declutter a whole room doesn’t mean you can’t do something. Start small and make a little progress. Progress is progress even if it takes a little longer than you’d like. Don’t give up!

10 – GET THINGS OUT OF THE HOUSE QUICKLY – Don’t hold on to things just in case, make your decisions and move one. Put things in your car and make a trip to your favorite donation center.

What motivates you to declutter quickly?  What one of these strategies works best for you?
